As a painter, Lyda Ely is drawn to the wide open spaces and landscapes of her youth — the shores of Long Island, and specifically Southampton, New York. She studied art in high school, but didn’t pick up the paintbrush again until long after college. Since then, her work has been shown at the Hoorn Ashby Gallery in New York City, and at The Burr Homestead in Fairfield, Ct. as well as at private showings throughout the New York City area.
Lyda is inspired by the colors, settings and images of artists Fairfield Porter, Wolf Kahn, Jane Freilicher and Richard Diebenkorn, as well as by the work of artist/instructor Brian Rutenberg, with whom Lyda has studied in New York for many years.
